Learn how to present a strong image during a film audition and cold reading. This educational workshop emphasizes character development, believability and overall effectiveness of a scene. Actors will read scenes (individual and/or partner) or perform improv scenes, and will receive detailed feedback and redirection. Plus, learn about: what casting directors are looking for; how to get work; do’s and dont’s of auditioning; and much more!

Helen McCready, C.S.A., is a Casting Director/Producer with over 20 years of experience “casting” for television, films, commercials, industrials and web series. Her career includes hundreds of casting credits (see imdb.com). In 2010, she cast: films such as “Suspicion”, “Zombie Drugs”, “This Bitter Earth”, “Xtraction”, “Family 2.0″, “Dead Enders” and “Your Move”; two SAG web series (“The Resolve” and “Writer’s Block”); and a reality TV pilot “Callback”. Other notable casting credits include”It’s Complicated” (Starring Meryl Streep, Steve Martin) and “Away We Go” (Director Sam Mendes; starring John Krasinski, Maya Rudolph) both in 2009. As well, some older notable films include “Forget About It” (starring Burt Reynolds, Robert Loggia, in 2006) and “Bird on a Wire” (starring Mel Gibson, Goldie Hawn, back in 1990). Prior to her entry into casting, Helen studied acting and spent many years as a film and television actress (starting with “21-Jump Street” in 1987). After learning the trade skills of a Casting Professional, she has been using her expertise and nurturing style to teach and coach hundreds of actors. For years, Helen has been very successful at continuously connecting talent to Hollywood producers, directors, agents, managers, and casting directors! In 2010, Helen became VP of Casting for two production companies (Bengal Pictures & BD Rich Productions! Currently (2011), among many other projects, she is very busy casting and participating in the development of 9 feature films (7 of which still need to be cast): “Vengeance”, “Untitled Sandra Lindo Project”, “Through Maria’s Eyes”, “Taming the Beast”, “Racetrack”, “Kevin Can’t Wait”, “Margarine Wars”, “Unrest” and “The Best Hockey Movie”. She is ALSO developing a new sitcom pilot entitled “An Affair to Remember”.

Cancellation of Casting Director Workshops

There is a 48-hour cancellation policy for Casting Director Workshops. If you cancel prior to 48 hours, you will receive a credit in the amount you paid towards a future workshop. THERE ARE NO REFUNDS. If you cancel within 48 hours of the workshop and we are unable to fill your spot, or if the class is not full or there is no one to take your spot off the waiting list, you will be responsible for full payment. In the event that a instructor or casting director cancels and a comparable replacement cannot be scheduled for that same date, your fee will be applied to a future workshop of your choice.
